Gill Castle, a resident of Northumberland, is leveraging her personal experience with a stoma to provide support and assistance to women in Kenya. A stoma is a surgical opening on the abdomen that allows waste to exit the body. Castle, who has firsthand knowledge of the challenges and stigma associated with living with a stoma, is on a mission to empower women in Kenya who face similar difficulties.

Castle’s journey began when she attended a stoma care event where she met a Kenyan woman named Faith. Faith was struggling with the physical and emotional toll of living with a stoma, compounded by the lack of resources and understanding in her community. Inspired by Faith’s story, Castle decided to take action and make a difference in the lives of women like her.

Castle founded a non-profit organization named “Stoma Aid” with the aim of providing support, education, and resources to stoma patients in Kenya. Through Stoma Aid, Castle collects donations of stoma supplies, including bags, creams, and other essential items, which are then shipped to Kenya and distributed to those in need. The organization also raises funds to sponsor stoma surgeries for individuals who cannot afford the procedure.

In addition to providing physical support, Castle and her team at Stoma Aid are dedicated to breaking down the stigma surrounding stomas in Kenya. They organize educational workshops and awareness campaigns to dispel misconceptions and promote understanding and acceptance within communities. By sharing her own journey and experiences, Castle hopes to inspire empathy and compassion among Kenyan society.

Castle’s efforts have already made a significant impact on the lives of women in Kenya. Through Stoma Aid, she has provided vital supplies to numerous individuals, improving their quality of life and allowing them to regain their confidence. Furthermore, Castle’s dedication to raising awareness has started to shift attitudes towards stomas, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for those living with the condition.

Gill Castle’s inspiring work is a testament to the power of personal experiences and the impact one individual can make in the lives of others. Through Stoma Aid, she continues to empower women in Kenya, ensuring they receive the support and understanding they deserve in their journey towards a healthier and happier life.
