An Alaska Airlines flight that “experienced an incident” after taking off from Portland International Airport on Friday evening landed there soon afterward, the airline said, without elaborating.
The airline and the National Transportation Safety Board said that they were investigating what had happened to Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 as it flew to Ontario, Calif.
The Port of Portland said that an emergency landing had been made at the international airport on Friday but did not name the carrier. Few other details were immediately available.
Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, a Boeing 737-9 MAX, departed for Ontario International Airport at 5:07 p.m., according to FlightAware, a flight tracking website. It was diverted back to Portland six minutes later.
The plane reached a maximum altitude of about 16,000 feet and landed in Portland at 5:27 p.m., FlightAware data showed.
