Russia launched an attack on Kyiv on Wednesday, targeting an apartment building and a hospital. The attack resulted in 45 people being injured, marking the third significant strike on the capital in the past week.
This bombardment occurred two days after the Russian military targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles and attack drones, which Ukraine claimed to have successfully shot down. President Volodymyr Zelensky had departed for Washington earlier that day, seeking to garner support from the United States for his country. Russia has frequently used his foreign visits as opportunities to launch major attacks.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Russia also carried out missile, cruise missile, and drone strikes on Kyiv on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated early Wednesday that rocket fragments had caused damage to the exterior of an apartment building in the Dnipro district, leading to the evacuation of 15 individuals, including four children and two individuals with disabilities.
In the same district, a rocket damaged a hospital building, creating a crater on the premises and shattering windows in nearby buildings, as reported by Mr. Klitschko. One person was injured as a result.
Out of those injured in the Dnipro district, 18 were hospitalized, including two children, while 27 received on-site treatment, including three children, according to Mr. Klitschko.
Emergency crews are currently working to repair the water system in the Dnipro district, which suffered damage when rocket fragments fell on the roads. Additionally, two houses caught fire due to the strike.
