Prof Sir Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer (CMO) for England, has expressed his support for Rishi Sunak’s proposal to gradually increase the legal age for purchasing cigarettes each year, ultimately leading to a complete ban on tobacco sales.
During an interview with the BBC, Prof Whitty emphasized the detrimental health effects of smoking and shared his personal experiences witnessing individuals desperately seeking to quit smoking while hospitalized, as it is a habit that is causing harm and leading to premature deaths.
