Lamis Khaled Hassan Azazy had always dreamed of having a wedding in front of the pyramids of Giza. Growing up in Cairo, she visited the pyramids as a child, but never thought it would be possible to have her wedding there. That changed in December 2022, when Dior held a men’s fashion show in front of the pyramids. Ms. Azazy, a fashion enthusiast, attended the show with her fiancé at the time, Sherif Medhat Abdelhalem. Inspired by the show, they embarked on a quest to have their wedding at the pyramids.
Over the next 11 months, the couple had numerous discussions with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, as they wanted to ensure the protection and preservation of the historical site. The pyramids of Giza have deep cultural and historical significance, which added to the couple’s concerns. Despite their worries, they were determined to make their dream come true.
Their love story began at a brunch gathering in Cairo. They were instantly drawn to each other and spent hours talking, despite the noisy environment. They continued to meet and eventually started dating. They traveled together and shared many memorable experiences.
In October 2021, during a trip to London, Mr. Abdelhalem proposed to Ms. Azazy. They returned to Cairo to have their legal ceremony at the Prince Mohamed Ali Palace. On November 3, they celebrated with over 2,000 guests in a tent overlooking the pyramids. The wedding was described as magical and mystical, with a custom gold gown designed by Elie Saab for the bride and a private concert by pop superstar Amr Diab.
The celebrations lasted until the early hours of the morning, with love in the air and the energy of the pyramids surrounding them. It was a truly unforgettable experience for the couple and their guests.
