A radio journalist has been fatally shot while hosting a live show in the Philippines.
The assailant gained entry to Juan Jumalon’s home studio, known as DJ Johnny Walker, by posing as a listener.
During Jumalon’s morning broadcast, the shooter fired two rounds at the 57-year-old while viewers watched the program live on Facebook.
After the attack, the gunman grabbed Jumalon’s gold necklace and fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice who had been waiting outside.
A video of the incident shows Jumalon pausing and looking away from the camera before the sound of two gunshots. He slumps back in his chair as background music continues to play.
Jumalon was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.
Although the attacker did not appear in the Facebook livestream, police are examining security camera footage from Jumalon’s house and neighboring properties to gather evidence.
Authorities are currently investigating the identity of the gunman and whether the attack was work-related.
Jumalon hosted broadcasts for Gold FM 94.7 from his home in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.

The Philippines has long been recognized as one of the most perilous places for journalists worldwide.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, a press freedom watchdog, reported that Jumalon’s death marks the 199th journalist killed in the country since 1986.
“The attack is even more condemnable since it occurred at Jumalon’s own home, which also served as the radio station,” the organization stated.
Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the president, vehemently denounced the killing.
“Attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in our democracy, and those who threaten the freedom of the press will face the full consequences of their actions,” he declared on X, formerly Twitter.
Jumalon’s death brings the number of journalists killed since Marcos took office in June 2022 to four.
