Baby Nandi, 58, is currently awaiting her next chemotherapy session at the Cachar hospital clinic. Sadly, she had to endure a grueling journey of 2,000km (1,242 miles) in order to receive treatment for her breast cancer. The expenses associated with her medical journey have placed an immense burden on her family’s finances, leaving them teetering on the edge of financial stability.

The cost of the medications alone for a single cycle of treatment amounts to a staggering $650. With a need for six cycles in total, the financial strain on Baby Nandi’s family has been overwhelming. Furthermore, when accounting for the additional costs of travel and accommodation, the financial burden becomes even more severe.

Baby Nandi’s journey to Cachar hospital clinic is a testament to the lengths individuals are willing to go in seeking vital healthcare. However, the exorbitant costs associated with her treatment highlight the pressing need for accessible and affordable healthcare options.

Breast cancer is a devastating disease that affects countless lives around the world. It is crucial that individuals like Baby Nandi have access to appropriate treatment without being burdened by overwhelming financial costs. Healthcare should be a basic human right, and the current situation faced by Baby Nandi and her family underscores the urgent need for healthcare reforms.

Efforts must be made to ensure that individuals facing medical challenges, such as Baby Nandi, do not have to endure extensive travel and financial strain in order to receive the care they desperately need. By implementing policies that prioritize accessible and affordable healthcare, we can alleviate the burden faced by families like Baby Nandi’s and ensure equal access to life-saving treatments for all.
