S Hotels and Resorts PCL, an international hospitality company owned by Singha Estate PCL, has recently entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldives’ Ministry of Climate Change, Environment & Energy. The purpose of this partnership is to protect and preserve the natural environment of this picturesque island nation. The MoU also aims to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and provide support for CROSSROADS Maldives’ diverse marine biodiversity.
This collaboration will focus on an area spanning 3.15km², which constitutes approximately 31% of the total project size. The designated area will be safeguarded through the implementation of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) program.
The OECMs program ensures that the natural resources and habitats within the designated area are conserved effectively. It also promotes the sustainable use of these resources and encourages the involvement of local communities in conservation efforts.
Through this MoU, S Hotels and Resorts PCL and the Maldivian government aim to preserve the unique and fragile ecosystem of the Maldives. The pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rich marine life are not only valuable assets for the tourism industry but are also crucial for sustaining the livelihoods of the local communities.
The partnership will also focus on knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives. This will facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices in environmental conservation between S Hotels and Resorts PCL and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment & Energy. By collaborating in this manner, the two entities can work together to address the challenges posed by climate change and other environmental issues.
CROSSROADS Maldives, a project developed by Singha Estate PCL, is an integrated resort destination located in the Emboodhoo Lagoon. It aims to provide a sustainable and luxurious experience for tourists while also promoting environmental stewardship. By partnering with the Maldivian government, S Hotels and Resorts PCL demonstrates its commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism.
In conclusion, the signing of the MoU between S Hotels and Resorts PCL and the Maldives’ Ministry of Climate Change, Environment & Energy marks a significant step towards the conservation and preservation of the Maldives’ natural environment. By implementing the OECMs program and fostering knowledge sharing, this partnership aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Maldives’ marine biodiversity and contribute to the well-being of local communities.
