Conservative media outlets are increasing their ad buys on X to show support for owner Elon Musk, as the platform faces a boycott from major brands. Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon announced that the satirical site doubled its initial pledge to $500,000 after Disney and other companies pulled their ads. Other influencers like Tim Pool and The Daily Wire have also made substantial commitments. However, revenue from conservative influencers is unlikely to fill the revenue hole left by the corporate pullout. Fortune 100 companies like Apple, Comcast, Disney, IBM, and Walmart suspended their advertising on X after incidents involving Elon Musk’s tweets and allegations of ads next to neo-Nazi tweets. Musk has denied the allegations and sued Media Matters for defamation. At a summit, Musk apologized for his tweet but made it clear he wouldn’t beg advertisers to return. Disney CEO Bob Iger said the association with Musk and X was not positive for the company, which Shapiro called ridiculous. Other conservative influencers have called for Musk backers to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions. Despite the support from conservative influencers, a prolonged advertising boycott could doom X, which Musk sees as a platform that preserves free speech. Musk bought Twitter and renamed it X to end the platform’s censorship of conservative views. The Babylon Bee was previously locked out of Twitter but was reinstated after Musk bought the platform.
