Amazon is launching a new service focused on virtual care, aiming to become a regular health care source for its Prime customers. The program costs $9 a month or $99 annually, providing quick access to a health care provider. This announcement comes after Amazon’s acquisition of One Medical, a membership-based primary care provider, last year. The company has had previous attempts to incorporate healthcare into its platform, but this new service shows promise. It includes video telemedicine visits and the option for in-person visits at One Medical locations. The membership fee covers the cost for virtual visits, while in-person visits at One Medical offices would require additional payment. Virtual care has become popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, but some doctors express concerns about care fragmentation and tracking a patient’s overall health.
